More Than Just an Art Walk: How iHuman’s Annual Event Uplifts Youth and Builds Community

The iHuman Art Walk begins with a special celebration of the community that makes it all possible. On Thursday, September 11 at 4:00 pm, we’ll gather in iHuman’s theatre space for our Donor Appreciation Event, an evening that not only thanks our supporters, but also sets the tone for two days of creativity and connection. Guests will enjoy live performances, refreshments, and a preview of select artworks that will be featured during Art Walk.

We are especially proud to spotlight the release of Pointz of View, a youth-driven album created in partnership with the Edmonton Arts Council. Thanks to EAC’s funding, young musicians received mentorship as they developed, produced, and released this project—amplifying their voices and stories in an impactful way. Our Donor Appreciation Event serves as both a heartfelt thank-you and an inspiring kickoff to the Art Walk weekend.

What is the iHuman Art Walk?

Held over 2 days, the iHuman Art Walk transforms the street outside our building into a vibrant showcase of youth talent. Visitors can browse and purchase original artwork, enjoy live performances, and connect with the young artists who make iHuman such a vital part of Edmonton’s creative community.

A Win for the Community

The iHuman Art Walk is about connection. It brings together youth, supporters, local businesses, nonprofits, and curious passersby to experience something real, raw, and inspiring.

iHuman is the heartbeat of The Quarters, a neighbourhood in downtown Edmonton undergoing renewal with a focus on inclusivity, creativity, and livability. As a proud neighbour to YEG’s Arts District and part of the evolving Quarters Downtown, iHuman helps shape the cultural fabric of the city by centering youth voices and art in a space often overlooked.

By attending the Art Walk, community members:

  • Gain insights into the challenges and triumphs of marginalized youth
  • Support a model of care that centers healing rather than judgement
  • Discover one of a kind art and performances
  • Amplify youth voices that are often overlooked
  • Witness the transformative power of creativity

Empowering Youth Through Creative Expression

For many of the youth at iHuman, art is more than a hobby, it is a life line. It’s how they process trauma, reclaim their stories, and build confidence in a world that has too often told them they do not belong.

Participating in the Art Walk gives youth the chance to:

  • Showcase their skill and be publicly celebrated
  • Gain real world experience as a working artist
  • Earn income through art sales (100% of proceeds go directly to the youth)
  • Perform in front of an audience, building confidence and self-esteem
  • Engage with local media and new audiences in a supportive environment

Honorariums are also provided for youth performers, and meals are offered during participation, ensuring a dignified and inclusive experience.
Supported by a Village

iHuman’s arts programming, along with the Art Walk itself, are supported by partners like the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Edmonton Arts Council, Boyle Street Community League, Totem Charitable Foundation, and RBC. Their support ensures that youth continue to access the tools and mentorship needed to heal, grow, and shine.

It’s Not Just an Art Walk. It’s a Launchpad

Behind every canvas is a story. Behind every lyric is a life being rebuilt. The iHuman Art Walk is more than an event – It is a platform for transformation. It’s where passion becomes purpose and creativity sparks community.

Join us this September and be part of something that goes far beyond the paint.
